Geared Blowers

Turbo-class efficiency through a step-up gearbox: compact, controllable and easier to support.

What they are

The turbo principle with simpler engineering: a step-up gearbox spins the impeller to turbo speed, giving near-turbo efficiency without air or magnetic bearing systems to support. A practical route to efficient air on medium and large duties.

What we do

  • Specialist servicing and repair, including gearbox and oil system work.
  • Supply of new and refurbished geared packages across the major makes.
  • Health checks and oil analysis programmes that catch gearbox wear early.
  • Hire cover while a machine is in the workshop.

Getting the choice right

A geared machine sits between a lobe blower and an air-bearing turbo: more efficient than the first, simpler to support than the second. On duties that run long hours but cannot justify exotic bearings, the gearbox route often lands the best cost of ownership.

Ask about support before you buy. Gearboxes are repairable by people who know them and dead weight when they do not, so the service arrangement matters as much as the nameplate.

What goes wrong

  • Metals trending in oil analysis: gearbox wear announcing itself early, and the cheapest repair you will ever get on one.
  • Rising vibration at speed: balance, alignment or bearing wear. Measured diagnosis before any strip-down.
  • Oil weeping at seals: routine when caught early, damaging when the level drops unnoticed.
  • Control and surge trips: the machine protecting itself. Find out why before resetting and running on.

Typical duties

aeration and process air where efficiency matters but simplicity wins.
